Douglas E. Schoen, Founder

Douglas E. Schoen has been one of the most influential Democratic campaign consultants for over thirty years, creating winning messages, building and executing campaigns, and providing strategic advice to political and corporate clients both in the United States and around the world.

Schoen has served as pollster to Mayor Mike Bloomberg for the past 12 years, and was the principal research consultant and strategist for Bloomberg in each of his three campaigns.

Prior to founding his current firm, Schoen was a founding partner and principle strategist for Penn, Schoen & Berland. He is widely recognized as one of the co-inventors of overnight polling.

Schoen was named Pollster of the Year in 1996 by the American Association of Political Consultants. Schoen was President William Jefferson Clinton’s research and strategic consultant during the 1996 reelection, and has been widely credited with creating and effectively communicating the message that turned around the President’s political fortunes between 1994 and 1996.

His political clients have included Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.), New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine, and Indiana Governor Evan Bayh, and his corporate clients have included Walmart, AOL Time Warner, Procter & Gamble and AT&T. Internationally, he has worked for the heads of states of over 15 countries, including British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, and three Israeli Prime Ministers.

Schoen helped introduce Victor Pinchuk, Ukraine oligarch, financier, and former member of Parliament, to philanthropic and political groups that have made him an international figure who now serves on the boards of the Peterson Center for International Economics, the International Crisis Group and the Clinton Foundation.

Schoen is the author of eight books and is a regular contributor to the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, NY Daily News, and various other newspaper and online publications. He is also a Fox News Contributor, making appearances on various news programs daily.

Schoen graduated magna cum laude from Harvard, and holds a degree from Harvard Law School as well as a doctorate in philosophy from Oxford University. He has lectured at the Institute of Politics at Harvard University John F. Kennedy School of Government, the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania, and the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University.


Carly Cooperman, Principal

Carly Cooperman is a Principal of Douglas E. Schoen, LLC. Carly heads the firm’s analytical division and is responsible for the overall design, execution and analysis of research initiatives. She has worked on an extensive range of high-level political, corporate, and nonprofit clients using quantitative and qualitative research to help clients develop and refine their overall strategy, communications and branding initiatives.

Specializing in polling, communications research, and message development, Carly has been a senior strategist for over a dozen political candidates running for state and national office including Mayor Mike Bloomberg, Governor Jon Corzine, Senator-elect Angus King, and Manhattan District Attorney candidate Leslie Crocker Snyder. Carly has worked on campaigns and research initiatives for issue advocacy and interest groups, and recently was a principal strategist for a national, comprehensive survey research study for the Manhattan Institute on state fiscal crises, labor/management issues, and pension reforms.

Carly has also advised corporate clients in a wide range of industries including consumer products, healthcare, energy, and media and entertainment. She has broad experience in corporate brand and reputation development, positioning and tracking, consumer targeting, demographic and attitudinal segmentation, crisis management, and advertising copy testing.

Carly has co-authored and contributed to articles on the Politico, The Daily Beast, the Huffington Post, Rasmussen Reports and Real Clear Politics. She is a magna cum laude graduate of The George Washington University with honors distinction (BA, Political Communications, minor, Business Administration).


Jessica Tarlov, Senior Strategist

Jessica Tarlov is a senior strategist. She has done cutting edge research on political methods and worked on a variety of projects for the firm’s political division. She regularly co-writes op-eds for The Daily Beast and New York Daily News.

Previously, Jessica worked as a social media advisor for London Mayor Boris Johnson’s reelection campaign.

Jessica graduated from Bryn Mawr College with a BA in International History and holds a PhD in Political Science from the London School of Economics.
